As a life insurance agent, nothing feels better than helping people and getting policies in force. I like knowing that when the process is complete, I’ve helped someone purchase life insurance to protect their loved ones, which may help them rest a little easier.
It’s especially true when the person had been putting off a life insurance purchase. When someone wants insurance but doesn’t have time to deal with it for whatever reason, it can really nag at them. I like helping people to get relief from that.
In one client’s case, I helped him put two policies of term life insurance in force. Getting insurance was something he’d meant to do for years, and he finally got around to it. He wrote me when it was finished. Here’s what he said:
Jason,
I received hard copy of the policies in my mail when I returned from the road yesterday. Thank you, Jason. This is something I have deferred for years. I am very grateful for your help in my gaining peace of mind.
Regards,
Dan
I was really glad to hear from Dan. Part of my rapport with him was that I related to him in some ways. I’m the first to admit that there are some things that seem permanently on my To Do list. So I understood Dan’s having put things off. Even the best of intentions can get waylaid with the pressures of life. I’m really happy that it all worked out fine for him.
Then I started wondering about how many people I’d spoken to about life insurance, who went on to delay purchasing and ended up sorry. You never know when something could happen. And sometimes it’s not a case of a death, but a change in health or other rate classifier that could cause the premium to be higher, or even mean the person would be denied insurance. I felt relief for Dan that he had his policies and premiums locked in. It’s a solid, safe feeling.
I also thought about Dan gaining “peace of mind.” He’s right. The value of life insurance isn’t always about getting paid the beneficiary amount. An unexpected death is just that. Unexpected. It might not happen. When you think about it that way, the value comes from the benefit of resting easy, knowing everyone is protected. It’s the peace of mind that comes from having a safety net. Dan realized his purchase was all about this sense of relief and peace of mind.
When it comes to putting things off, I decided to take Dan’s example and get working on my own To Do list. And just making the decision to take action is already giving me peace of mind.
