The Blessing of Life Insurance

We like to call it the "Miracle of Life Insurance," but through my personal experience, I like to refer to it as the "Blessing of Life Insurance."

I've worked for Matrix Direct for over 13 years and although I always knew what we provided to our clients was important, it wasn't until my mother received the "Blessing of Life Insurance" that it really gave true meaning to me.

My father took out his first life insurance policy back in 1969 when my oldest sister was born. He added three additional policies over the course of the next few years with the birth of my middle sister and myself. My mother was a stay-at-home mom and devoted wife for over 45 years. My father was the provider and my mother was the homemaker. She was not involved in the home finances and was completely unaware of my father's investments.

In February of 2011, my father passed away at age 72 from liver cancer. Of course, with the difficulty of losing my father, my mother had an overwhelming fear of the future and how she would be able to take care of herself.

With my knowledge of my father's life insurance policies, I was able to provide my mother with some comfort by reassuring her that my father was going to continue to provide even in his passing.

In reviewing my father's life insurance policies taken out so many years ago, to my amazement, they were all with insurance companies owned by AIG, my current employer. I never could have imagined that I would be spending my lunch breaks calling my employer and filing a claim on my father's life insurance policies, but my co-workers at AIG, whom I have never met, were kind, consoling, and made the process as easy as it could have possibly been.

It was not long before my mother received the proceeds from the insurance policies that my father had set up so long ago. I can't explain the relief it provided me and my mother when I escorted her to the bank and she was able to deposit the blessings she received.

It is reassuring to know first-hand how life insurance can be an unexpected blessing to those who have experienced such great loss.
